The Elmer Honey Co. Honey is Now Available at Gaskyns Whole Foods in Arundel

We’re buzzing with excitement here at The Elmer Honey Co. – and not just because the bees are in full swing this season. We’re proud to announce that our local honey is now stocked at Gaskyns WholeFoods in Arundel.

This is a meaningful milestone for our small, family-run business, not only because it brings our honey to a new group of customers but also because it’s happening in a shop that shares many of our values.

If you haven’t been to Gaskyns before, let us paint you a little picture.

A Proper Independent Gem

Tucked away in the heart of Arundel, Gaskyns WholeFoods is more than just a health food shop. Its one of those special places that still feels like it is part of the local community they are known for supporting local producers, prioritising quality over quantity, and always taking the time to chat with everyone who enters their door.

You’ll find organic vegetables, refill stations, sustainable cleaning products, unusual grains and pulses, and now – much to our delight – a range of our Elmer Honey sitting proudly on their shelves.

For us, having a presence there isn’t just about shifting stock. It’s about being part of a broader effort to support real food, appropriately made and sold responsibly.

What Makes Our Honey Special?

We often get asked what makes our honey different. The truth is, we do as little to it as possible.

Our bees forage in and around Elmer and the surrounding West Sussex countryside, where there’s a surprising variety of wildflowers, hedgerows, and coastal plants. The result is a beautifully balanced honey that shifts subtly with the seasons – sometimes floral, sometimes earthy, always raw and unadulterated.

We extract it gently, strain it just enough to remove the odd bit of wax, and that’s it. It’s the real thing – as close to what the bees intended as you can get.

Every jar tells the story of a specific time and place. The weather, the flowers in bloom, even the mood of the hive – they all leave their mark.

Why Gaskyns? Why Arundel?

We’ve always been drawn to Arundel. It’s a town with a proper sense of identity – steeped in history, surrounded by nature, and full of people who care about where their food comes from.

Over the years, we’ve met so many Arundel locals at markets and events. They’re curious and thoughtful, appreciating the kind of slower, seasonal food that doesn’t rely on shortcuts or flashy packaging. When we first spoke to the team at Gaskyns, it was a perfect fit.

They understood what we do immediately – not just the end product, but the way we approach it. We knew straight away it was the right place for our honey.

Behind the Jar: A Glimpse into the Hives

We aren’t a massive commercial operation. We’re a family who keep bees because we love it. The honey is a wonderful by-product of that care and attention.

Our hives are spread across a handful of quiet spots – some tucked behind gardens, others near the coast, and a few nestled beside meadows and woodland. Each one has its own character, and the bees respond to what’s around them.

Spring brings dandelions and fruit blossoms. Summer sees clover, thistle, and wild marjoram. And in late summer, you might find hints of ivy or even a touch of salty sea breeze from the coastal forage.

We don’t treat our bees with synthetic chemicals, and we let them keep plenty of their honey over winter. We genuinely believe a healthier hive makes for better honey – and we’d rather take less if it means they stay strong.

We’re also working on a few short videos and photos from the hives, which we’ll be sharing on our website and social channels soon. It’s not always glamorous – beekeeping involves a fair bit of mud, sweat, and stubborn bees – but it’s endlessly fascinating.

Come and Try It

If you’re near Arundel – or visiting the town for the castle, a riverside walk, or a mooch around the antique shops – we’d really encourage you to pop into Gaskyns and say hello.

The team are warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what they do, and of course, you can now pick up a jar of our honey while you’re there.

Whether it’s for your morning toast, stirred into tea, drizzled over yoghurt, or given as a gift – we hope it brings a little of the Sussex sunshine into your day.
